Brief History Of Ayurveda. An Indian system Of medicine.

Ayurveda is one of the most ancient and advance system of medicine.
When we see through the history of the science, it goes back to 2000 yrs B.C. But its the controversial subject so lets not got there for time beings.

In this article I will give you the Brief HISTORY of Ayurveda.

Ayurveda is said to be the Upveda of Atharvaveda. Some Acharyas have mentioned Ayurveda as Pancham veda. But major accepted it as a Upaveda only.

Brahma Samhita said to be the 1st book of Ayurveda though its not available but some scattered references are available of the book. Brahama Samhita Contains 100,000 Slokas and it was divided in 1,000 chapters.

Ayurveda Avtarana / Decent Of Ayurveda.
Different Acharyas have mentioned differently,

A/C to Charakacharya

Brahma ---> Dakha Prajapati ---> Ashwini Kumaras ---> Indra ---> Bharadwaj ---> Acharya Atreya ---> Agnivesha, Jatukarna, Bhela, Parashar, Harit, Ksharapani.

In turn all the shishyas (Students) wrote there own books.
Agnivesh wrote- Agnivesh tantra,
Jatukarana wrote- Jatukarna tantra,
Bhel wrote- Bhela tantra,
Parashara wrote- Parashara tantra,
Harit wrote- Hatita tantra,
Ksharapani wrote- Ksharapani tantra.

Among these books Agnivesh tantra is available in the form of Charaka Samhita. Acharya Charaka is the redactor of Agnivesh tantra. But during course of time, some of its chapters went missing so again Drudhbala wrote those chapters.

Time Period Of Agnivesh tantra said to be 10th B.C. But again this is controversial subject. But most of the historian accepted that time of Agnivesh based on the references used in the book is around 10th B.C to 5th B.C.

Time of Charaka based on the references used in the book is around 1st B.C. to 2nd A.D.

Time of Drudhabala  based on the references used in the book is around 4th A.D.

Present Charaka Samhita is a work of Agnivesh, Charaka & Drudhbala.

"इत्यग्निवेशकृते तन्त्रे चरकप्रतिसंस्कृतेऽप्राप्ते दृढबलसम्पूरिते॥"

Misconcept about Ayurveda

Ayurveda: What is it? Now a days people know that its a medical science, but Ayurveda is not just a medical science its a way of life. Ayurveda teaches us how to live our life healthly. Now even W.H.O has also changed defination of the healthy individual, "Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not only merely absence of disease or infirmity."Health is no longer difined simply in physical term, as the absence of disease or disability, but now includes mental and social dimensions. This defination of healthy individual Ayurveda has described thousands of years before.

Now during this time people has some misconcept regarding Ayurveda, and even some of Ayurvedic practitioner also leading the people on wrong way, saying that Ayurvedic medicine has no expiry dates and even the worse that Ayurvedic medicine has no side effect.

Every one who studied Ayurveda knows some of the Ayurvedic medicine has its own self life period and during that time only the preparation will give the desirable result, and after that some medicine's efficacy will be reduced. But now a days to increase self life of any medicine some Ayurvedic companies add preservatives in it, eventhough because of preservatives life of medicine will be increased but then also it will not reach the level of freshly prepared medicine. Now agin questation coe that oif it is so then why to use such prepared medicine, answer for that is certain Ayurvedic plants gives there fruits or flowers in certain atmospher and in certain seasons only, so for that if fresh medicine is not available one can use those prepared medicine, but in that one has to look for the expire date also, as because of preservatives medicines property will remain for certain time only. Now some of the Ayurvedic medicine retains there properties even after 10 years, like some BHASMA and AASAV ARISTAS.

Now one more big misconcept about Ayurveda that it will not have any side effect, now for this I just want to in form you that some Ayurvedic medicines are banned in America and European countries as some Ayurvedic medicine contains heavy metal which is banned in those countries. Because if those metal's purification will not be proper then that can lead to certain mejor diseases as well. And some time patient will not be knowing that there disease is may be because of those medicine, and only certified Ayurvedic practitioner knows the duration to take such medicine. And to buy any of the medicine which contains metals always go for the standard company as they take proper care to purification on the matle, eventhough it will be costly but to avoide side effects.

Now in recent time I came to know about one more Ayurvedic medicin's scndal, I just want to drow ur attaintion, Some Ayurvedic company use the powder of Alopathic medicine and directly give that to patient, patient might not be knowing about it, so be sure what ur purcheasing and from whom you are purcheasing, always see for the batch no, company licence no as well.

If you find any thing or if you have doutb just go for its lab investigation or report it to food and drug department. So that they can investigate properly.
Being Ayurvedic practitioner it is my duty to drow your attention towards such things.

Be healthy and safe. Enjoy you life.
